Pop culture’s dominant influence on fashion trends.

dominant influence on fashion trends

Pop culture is something that’s been around for years and is essentially the direct impact multiple genres such as movies, music and trends have on society. Depending on location and different cultures, things such as movies or music can have a massive effect on that location and its society, with some things even changing worldwide.

How Pop cultures impact depends on location

You’ll get certain things that are loved and adored just in their home nation, whilst other things will transcend that and be known all over the world. For example, let’s say a massive celebrity starts wearing slim fit jeans in the United States, this could have a massive impact on pop culture there and would affect how people see fashion there. This however probably wouldn’t affect other countries as they have completely different tastes and styles, showing how it can impact one particular place but not always all around the world.

Pop culture has a massive impact on new trends and how people go about their lives. For example, in fashion, the United States is directly impacted by such people as Celebrities, movie stars and singers who all contribute towards how the fashion industry works and evolves.

What impacts the influence

Platforms such as movies and music videos offer a massive opportunity for new trends to be showcased and revealed to the public, with millions of viewers on hand to see these new trends. If you take fashion for example, in the US there is a massive turnaround of different styles and designs that are frequently going in and out of style.

This means if a new fashion trend is showcased on a blockbuster movie or a new music video from one of the biggest singers, if they were either promoting or even just wearing a new fashion item, this could completely alter the trajectory of the current fashion industry.

This isn’t the same all over the world however, as if we look at somewhere such as India, who are known for their great cultures and traditions, things change a lot slower over there and things such as movies and music have much less of an impact on their culture and any current trends going.

In India, they have very deep-rooted traditions that have been in place for generations. Things like Bollywood and music videos have minimal impact on trends in fashion as this is already set into their culture and isn’t something that’s easily changed. Whilst these traditions can change and adapt over time, they mainly stay the same and you’ll see people dress the same as they did ten even twenty years ago as it’s embedded into their culture meaning it’s not easily changed.

If you compare the two, they’re complete opposites. One is frequently altered and changed by more high-profile people, whereas the other has minimal change due to the deep-rooted traditions that are in place. Whilst they are still affected, it’s just not to the level that the US is.

This isn’t likely to change anytime in the near future as these cultures and traditions are passed down from generation to generation, they continue to be followed and grow, whereas in the US, people such as movie stars and singers will continue to have a massive impact on pop culture there for years to come.

Pop culture is a massive part of our lives and depending on where you live, it can shape how you dress, what music you listen to and what movies you watch. It’s been around for generations, and it shows just how easy trends can start.

Due to these trends, if you look at fashion even five years ago in the US it’s completely different to today, whereas in India, it’s been the same for years. This just shows how much of an impact it has on our daily lives and how much it can affect the choices you make. What was the last fashion trend you bought into?
